Minimax Creative is a small crew, which is the point. The people who take the brief are the people who turn up on the day and the people who cut it afterwards. Nothing gets handed down a chain.
Will Chao
Founder and Director
Will works as a director/cinematographer, photographer and producer across commercials, fashion film, brand work and portraiture. He built the Minimax Creative studio — the six by seven metre cyclorama in Mt Waverley — because he was tired of hiring rooms that would not do what the job needed. He works in English and Mandarin, so the conversation about what you actually want does not get lost on the way to the shoot.
Chloe
Producer
Chloe runs the production side: scheduling, call sheets, keeping a shoot day on time and everyone in it looked after. She also operates camera, so on smaller jobs she is on the floor rather than beside it. She is usually the first person you will speak to here, and the one who makes sure the thing you agreed to is the thing that turns up.
Lexi
Photographer
Stills across portrait, product and fashion. Also the reason the cats behave.
Diako
Gaffer and Set Builder
Diako lights the set and builds it. When a shot needs something that is not in the room yet, he is the one who makes it.
Jim
Video Producer, Videographer and Editor
Jim produces it, shoots it, flies it and cuts it. Camera on the ground, drone in the air, then the edit that turns a shoot day into something watchable.
Panda
Best Boy
Best boy in both senses. On set for lighting tests, morale, and the occasional portrait of his own.
Freida
Pawduction Manager
Younger than Panda and cheekier by a distance. Runs front of house on the firm belief that everyone who walks in has come to see her, which is usually true by the time they leave.
Toothbrush
Chief Barketing Officer
Yes, that is her name, and yes, it suits her. Stationed at the door, clears every arrival personally, and has never once let a stranger through without a full inspection.
How we work
Most jobs run with two or three of us on the floor, scaling up when the shoot needs it. We own the room and the gear, so the budget goes into the shoot rather than into hire and logistics, and you deal with the same people whether it is a quick social batch or a full production.

Video, photography, headshots, or a content day that covers the lot. Even a rough idea and a deadline is enough to start.
